In the last 30 years I’m proud of/grateful for: trying to be a go-with-the-flow person.
I’m not perfect at and I’m fairly sure I haven’t been go-with-the-flow my whole life, but I’ve discovered as an adult that it’s particularly helpful to have this mindset at family gatherings at holidays, especially when you’re married and need to share time with both families.
Yesterday we spent the first part of the day with my extended family, then drove for a few hours home to have the rest of Thanksgiving with Matt’s family. I try to keep the mindset that it doesn’t matter where we are or even if it’s the exact day of whichever holiday, the important thing is that we get to spend time with both our families. (Of course, I always prefer when one or both families come to me because my CF equipment and I prefer less traveling.)
How I celebrated: I was going to say by watching the Aggies win in the final installment of the Lonestar Showdown, but it was a nail-biter where the tables turned in the last 3 seconds and the Longhorns won. (sssss!!) Oh well. There’s always next year—except there’s not. Last night was the end to a 118 year rivalry. So maybe I celebrated by appreciating the camaraderie the rivalry brought to our schools over the many, many decades. And by being glad it was a close and exciting game to watch.
