If I woke up tomorrow and didn’t have CF I would…*
-Wake up around 7:00 am
-Not do 30-45 min of nebulizers/vest
-Go running for 30-60 min
-Put on a pot of coffee
-Shower while coffee brews
-Make French toast + bacon or scrambled eggs + fruit
-Drink several cups of coffee (because I probably won’t have acid reflux)
-Work some part time, enjoyable job like being a librarian, barista, landscaper, freelance writer, etc.
-Enjoy an afternoon bike ride
-Cook dinner for my husband
-Enjoy any evening activity that begins after 8:00 pm that is not nebulizers/vest
-Go to bed anytime of the evening without feeling like dimminished hours of sleep will adversely affect my ability to function the next day.
Being able to do these things would add to the enjoyment of my life:
Travel spontaneously like young couples do. Camp in the car without electrical outlets. Sleep on friends’ couches. Spontaneously extend roadtrips without having to budget for medication. Not having to carry twice as much luggage as everyone else. (With no CF, I’m confident Matt and I could pack for a weeklong trip in only one backpack for the two of us.)
Go on fun adventure vacations to all the third world countries I’ve always wanted to visit without worrying that I might irrevocably damage my health.
Bike/run/etc. for long periods of time without fear of losing so much salt that I cramp EVERYWHERE and crumple to the ground. I could even dream of being competetive at these things without a weaker than normal body bringing me down.
Generally bring less personal and financial baggage into our marriage.
Be several thousand dollars richer each year.
*This is the perfect day if I didn’t have CF tomorrow, not if I had never had it to begin with. Pretty much the only thing that would change is my job choice. I might be something outrageously awesome like a spy or a doctor…
